Adult Learn To Row (Ages 18+)
PRC offers the community a free learn to row class with the goal of educating about the sport of Rowing as well as increasing membership in the club. The class covers the following:
- Overview of the sport, classes of boats, and equipment.
- Rowing stroke technique, use of the Concept2 indoor trainer, language used to identify each aspect of the stroke as well as coaching directions.
- Boathouse safety, movement of equipment, setting up boat to row, launching and recovery.
- Rowing on the water starting with a multi-person shell (or boat) and ending with qualification in a single.
Classes are taught by USRowing certified coaches.
NOTE: signing up for LTR will require you to set up a Crossbar platform account prior to registration.
Ages
Learn-to-Row is set up for Adults over 18 years old.
When
We run a Learn-to-Row program 2-3 times a year. Usually in August and April or May.
Where
Classes are all held at the PRC Boathouse in Bayview Community Center.
Class Schedule
Following the Learn-to-Row, Beginners Classes will form based on the group's preferences. These classes meet 2-3 times a week with a certified coach and allow for further on and off water training. Times will vary based on availability of the facilities and volunteers to support.
Frequently Asked Questions
What do I wear?
Fitted or spandex shorts are preferred. Loose fitting or baggy shorts can get caught in the sliding seat. A regular workout type shirt is fine. We recommend sunglasses and a hat regardless of weather, but not required.
What should I bring?
Bring a water bottle and a towel. We have a filtered water source to fill/re-fill water bottle. A towel is good to have on the off chance you get wet as well as when we perform exercises on the ground.
What if I cannot make all the classes?
We will work with individuals to complete their Learn-to-Row.
What do I need to do to sign up?

Beginner Rowing Class
Our Beginner Rowing Class is offered in June for five days, starting with basic information and safety, then focusing on proper technique for erg machine, sculling, and sweep rowing, as well as exposure to all classes of rowing shells.
The goal of the class is for students to be qualified to row during PRC open row sessions!
Dates and Times:
June 9, 16, 18, 23, 25 6:00 to 8:00 PM
June 9 Day Zero (optional if attended LTR event) Basic Learn-to Row orientation (not required if rower has attended a LTR event)
June 16, 18, 23, and 25 will include advanced erg machine training and rowing across the complete range of sculling and sweep boats.
Staff: Our coaches/instructors are all USRowing certified and have many years of rowing experience that includes competition at the collegiate level.
